I am in the process of learning Thesis with a view to developing websites aimed specifically at a UK audience with a .co.uk  extension in the address. Someone has recently told me that the search engines will favour sites that are hosted in the UK as opposed to using a US company like Bluehost or Hostgator. Can anyone advise on this, specifically if it really is a problem and if so how critical, plus can anyone recommend a great UK hosting service similar to the 2 US mentioned companies above. I don't know if Google "prefers" sites hosted in the same geographic location as their domain.  However, the one thing that is likely is that the closer your hosting is to your customers the faster the page loads will be.

A server that is located in the UK is likely to be faster than one hosted in the US for your customers.

I don't have a suggestion for a UK host.  Once upon a time I looked around and they all seemed quite a bit more expensive.
