Rick, can you give a little more info on this plugin?  I just saw info about this plugin http://getpremise.com/ from ProBlogger but would much rather support you.

Yes, I'll be posting instructional videos for that plugin shortly.  We recorded them this weekend.  However, if you install it and then go to the BYOB Thesis Plugins -> Landing Pages menu on the left you'll find written directions for how to use the plugin.

I'm also open to suggestions for what else the plugin should do.  Right now all it does is allow you to easily remove header, footer and sidebars from a page you wish to use as a landing page.

Before installing the Landing Page plug-in, I had a couple of questions:

1.  Does it have the capacity to remove just one sidebar (leaving either Sidebar 1 or 2 visible), or does it remove both sidebars?

2.  If my membership should lapse or expire, will the plug-in still work?   This won't be an issue for almost a year, but thought it best to ask.

Thanks!

Rick – The BYOB Thesis Landing Pages plugin removes both sidebar 1 and sidebar 2.  However, if you already have custom sidebars assigned to a given page it won't remove them.

Yes, the plugin will still continue to work, you just won't have access to updates.

And this is a consideration to anyone who subscribes to a premium plugin service.  If you come to depend on the plugins then you'll depend on them being updated – (I'm guessing that all of the plugins will need to be updated for Thesis 2.0).

I have subscriptions to Plugin Buddy and WPMU and I have to pay every year to make sure that the plugins I rely on are current.  Between the two of them its somewhere close to $500.

While I haven't developed these plugins as a means of keeping people "hooked", It's not a bad side effect (from my stand point) cool

Hi Rick,

I've been trying to install this plug-in, but it keeps failing to install. Do you have any ideas on why this may be happening or anything you can think that I could change within my wordpress admin area?

Thanks,
Melissa

Two things – first, make sure you are using the latest version.  If that fails then send me a screenshot of the failure.

Actually, here is the message I'm getting…I thought I had installed it before! But it's not listed in my plugins at all in the admin area:

————-
Installing Plugin from uploaded file: byob-thesis-landing-page-1.33.zip

Unpacking the package…

Installing the plugin…

Destination folder already exists. /home/mfcook/public_html/wp-content/plugins/byob-thesis-landing-page/

Plugin install failed.

Return to Plugins page

Melissa – this is telling you that there is an existing version of the plugin on your site.

You need to do one of two things.  If you have settings that you want to save then use filezilla to upload the new plugin files over the old.

If you don't have settings you want to save, delete the old version of the plugin first (deactivate and then delete).

This plugin is not listed in my list of installed plugins, so deactivating and deleting is not an option. Knowing this, should I go in and (if found in filezilla) delete the plugin, then re-install plugin?

Rick,  here''s the failure messages I get:

Installing Plugin from uploaded file: byob-thesis-feature-box-1.4.zip.html

Unpacking the package…

Incompatible Archive. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature

I'm getting this message when trying to install all BYOB plugins.

Installing Plugin from uploaded file: byob-thesis-landing-pages-plugin.html

Unpacking the package…

Incompatible Archive. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature

Google searched the last line above, I found WPress forum.  Many had same problem since 2008.  One fellow said, hi upped his capacity with Hostagtor. And it took care of this.  Did not work for me.  So I reinstalled Thesis.  This worked.  Now your plugins work.   What's interesting in this whole thing is …downloading other plugins from WordPress were NOT affected.  Just from BYOB.  I dunno.  Just reporting.

Installing Plugin from uploaded file: byob-thesis-navigation-menu-plugin.html

Unpacking the package…

Incompatible Archive. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature

Installing Plugin from uploaded file: byob-thesis-sub-sidebars-plugin.html

Unpacking the package…

Incompatible Archive. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature

This is a new site.  Latest WP with Theses 1.82.  Custom-sample changed to custom.  File permissions reset to 775 and 666 via DIY video tutorial.

How to figure what is wrong?  So it can be fixed.

When I Google the error message, three of the top 5 results say that the problem is due to insufficient disk space in your hosting account.  The other two mention a problem with some code in WordPress 2.8.

  1. http://nabtron.com/solvedincom…..cture/144/
  2. http://www.bestdesigns.co.in/b…..bad_format
  3. http://wordpressing.info/incom…..signature/
No body suggests it has anything to do with Thesis.
You could try unzipping the files on your local machine and installing the plugins the old fashioned way using filezilla.  At least at that point you don't have to try to engage your host's unzip routine.
