Rick,

I have been manually putting some of my blog post links on my Facebook business page. The links show up fine and I can do the introductory text, but no photo shows up even though there was a photo/thumbnail in the original post. I want to be able to have the picture accompany the text.  I went on the Thesis forum and saw other people with this issue but I could not see a clear answer.

In my research, I am reading about "open graph" but I am lost about it. It seems there are Facebook SEO benefits to it as well as possibly helping with this thumbnail issue – unless of course I am reading it wrong.

I am using "Add this" for my social media buttons. I had been using "Facebook Likes You" but deleted it because it had redundant social media button components that could not be turned off when used alongside "Add This".

I tried "Facebook Like Thumbnail" plugin but it did not seem to do anything. I also tried an "open graph" plugin but it did not seem to do anything either.

I am now using "Facebook Social Plugin Widget" to successfully put the Facebook Like Box on my blog.

Rick, do you have any solutions? There are many open graph plugins and Facebook automatically post your website posts to your Facebook page plugins. I am overwhelmed trying to figure out what will help to solve my problems and enhance the social media experience.

Thanks for your help.

Shari – I do have a solution.  It's not always perfect, because Facebook is dumb.  But it's way better than nothing.  This is actually not my solution either – this comes from DIY Themes - http://diythemes.com/thesis/rt…..meta-tags/

I'd be happy to do a video demonstration of this if you like on Wednesday.

Thanks Rick.

A video demonstration would be awesome! Unfortunately I will be working on Wednesday at Live Answers time. Can you do the video demonstration anyway? I will be so happy to watch it later.

Yes I will record that without you and post it under Live Answers.

Hi Rick,

I know you're real busy…but I was wondering if you were able to record that video demonstration and put it on Live Answers?

I keep checking but I'm not seeing it. Maybe I'm just missing it.

It would be so great to watch the video and learn how to be able to have my thumbnail show up when I post as my Facebook business page.

I appreciate you putting the link to the DIY instructions. However, I learn so much better when you explain it. smile

Thanks, Shari

No – I completely forgot!  Sign up for one of the sessions next week and include the question in your sign up.  I won't be able to forget that.

I would like to sign up for the Live Answer sessions but I still have the same problem that I work during those times and I can't do the sessions when I am at work.

Could you record it during one of the live sessions so I can watch it later? Or if you can do it some other time I will be glad to try to arrange that!

I really would like to get the Facebook posting to work right.

Thanks, Shari

However, if you don't attend, it still gets on the todo list.  I'll try to remember to do it sometime this week.  However, if you really want to make sure that it gets done, sign up for a session and post that as a question.  That way it makes it's way on to the prep list.

This may sound like a hairbrained way to do it, but really, my to do list is so long that the best way to make sure it gets done is to make it necessary to get done.

I hope that in the near future we'll be able to bring on more staff and I won't be focused on only the most immediate requests.  Then I'll be able to act on all the rest of those great ideas for videos.  However, right now my priorities end up being:

  1. Site support
  2. Keep staff working
  3. Prepare for Monday class
  4. Prepare for Live Sessions
  5. Maintain coaching clients
  6. Answer forum posts
  7. Everything else
And right now 1-6 takes 70 hours per week.

BYOBWebsite Success = Super Busy!!!!!!! laugh  Rick, Congratulations on your accomplishments.

Fortunately I have had some work meetings cancelled for this coming Thursday (2/9) so I signed up for the Live Answer session. I look forward to learning from you to get this Facebook Open Graph Protocol working right.

Except that I've already recorded it!  It should be posted later this week.  We did it last Wednesday morning!

That is so funny. Rick, it does not surprise me that even though you are so busy and thought you would not remember to do the lesson unless I reminded you…you did it anyway! Thanks so much. I can't wait to see it.

I still might want to do the Live Session this week unless you think my problems will be answered by the lesson already recorded.

When I thought the Live Answer session might not happen, I tried again to get it to work using a wordpress plugin "Social Graph Protocol". I put in my blog title, image, description, id number, url but when I use the Facebook debugging tool I get the following error that must be fixed:

Circular Redirect:Circular redirect path detected (see Redirect Path section for details).
And open graph warning that should be fixed:
Inferred Property:The og:locale property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
Also when I look up my main dreamweaver site on the Facebook debugger, I have errors that I do not know what to do with. An example is that Facebook wants me to provide an image but I do not know how to do that from an html site. Where do I upload it to?
What do you suggest Rick? Should I keep my Live Session appointment or wait and see the lesson you already recorded.
Thanks, Shari
