I don't seem to be able to style the wp-emember registration/login form submit buttons. They seem to have a "!important" command attached to the background which stops one from overriding it in custom.css.

Is there a way around this?

One way to do that is to add .custom in front of the submit button selector.  This gives your new rule a higher specificity which should overcome the important designation.  !important doesn't overcome specificity, it just breaks the tie with the same specificity.

Sorry to bother but I still can't get this right. This is the page http://palacequay.com/registration-page/

Adding the .custom does not seem to cancel the effect of the !important qualifier.

I have discovered that there is a custom css file in the emember plugin directory. I put in

input.eMember_button {
    background-color: #9C680E !important;
    background-image: none !important;
}

That seem to override their defaults – a less elegant solution but at least I can move on.

There is something to be said for that!
