In this session we demonstrate how to add a category to a menu in WordPress. We choose the categories to add using the dropdown menu and show an example of adding a menu. We also show where to find the categories that are not showing up by opening screen options and checking the categories we want added.
Rick: Okay, Brian asks how to add a category to a Carta menu. That is a WordPress function, so it’s not really a Carta menu, it’s a WordPress menu and you would do that over here under Appearance and Menus. If you’re using the latest version of WordPress then you’ve got this dropdown categories and you could choose just individual categories to add.
Let’s add Bananas to the menu. Just like you add anything else in the menu, we’ve just added the Bananas category to the menu. Now, it could be the case that categories aren’t showing up in this list of things to add to the menu. So, if that’s the case, what you want to do is open up screen options, because you can see for example, tags don’t show up there. If I click that now tags there and if I unclick that tags aren’t. If I unclick categories, categories aren’t.
So, if you don’t see something in this right hand side that you expect to see, then open up screen options and put a check box there. Anyway, that’s how you add a category archive page, because that’s what this is, a category archive page to the menu in WordPress. And then Carta, just uses WordPress menu so if you put it on there, it’s going to be there. Click on that link and it takes you to the archive page that has Bananas in it.
