This is the thirty third in a series of live lessons on using WordPress and Thesis as a Content Management System (CMS). In this lesson we continue working on our new catalog page and create the first custom menu using the WordPress 3.0 Menus. Then we add the menu using functions in our custom_functions.php file allowing us to specify that the menu only show up on the catalog page.

And then let’s create a new menu. It’s going to be called child menu. No, it’s going to be called children menu. You know, I think that whole child thing will get too confusing for the code so we’re going to call it children menu. In fact, we’re going to call it children’s menu. Create the menu and then we will… and now what we want is… audience type is children and location is going to be what? Location will be easy books and then j-fiction, okay…no, here. Location is going to be easy books, add it to the menu. Now we’ll paste that one again, we have the children right? Now it’s going to be called… we need to go back and look at that…at those locations. And that location here…oh that’s e-children, not easy children and j-fiction, okay.

We come back over to this and it’s actually e-children, isn’t it? Easy booksokay and then children and that was called j-fiction and then it’s junior fiction. Back to the menu and then let’s do it one more and that one is going to be nonfiction so it’s j-nonfiction, okay. So its location is j-nonfiction, add it to the menu and then the 4th one we’re going to add is going to be biographies. So again… and then biography… let’s make sure it’s actually biographies.

Okay so now we have 4 items for both and we just need to go back to this for a second and copy this code and instead of adult menu, it’s going to be children’s menu. Again, children’s menu and we’ll change the menu class to children’s menu and we will change adult here to children’s and then grab that function name and hook it to the adult menu in the same place the adult menu is hooked. So one will happen right after the other, we’ll save that document. We’ll upload the document and then we’ll refresh the document and go to custom catalog.
