In this session we show how to create the footer from the original site in the new Thesis site by using the BYOB Thesis Footer Widgets Plugin. We create one row footer widgets with three widget columns and customize the width and text alignment of each of these columns.
What we’re going to do next is add the Footer Widgets plugin and add this footer to the system. Next week, what we’ll do is take some of this content and put it in the pages. Then we’ll be very close to be finished with that and we’ll go through the process of transferring.
One of the things that we’re going to do here is transfer this development site that we’re creating into his live site and replace this site with a development site. I’m going to log in to this and actually, what we’re going to do here is pretty easy. I mean, this next step, making this here is going to be pretty simple.
The first thing to do is to install the plugin and this is going to be the BYOB Thesis Footer Widgets plugin. And you know what? Since my server is down, I’m going to have to download this myself from my Facebook page because I don’t have access to it.
Okay so we’ll go over here to Fan Central and plugins and then download the Thesis Footer Widgets plugin. Looks like I already had one of those. So then I’m going to add new and upload and choose that file and that is from my downloads folder. And I guess we have this alphabetically. Yeah, we’ll use that one, the latest. Activate the plugin.
So now we’ve got our Footer Widgets plugin in there and it’s going to show up here in the BYOB Thesis plugin section. We go to footer widgets and we have one row of footer widgets. You may remember that you can have up to 3 rows of footer widgets here but we have one row of footer widgets. We’re going to make 3 widget columns in that one row so we’ll have widget row 1, widget row 2, and widget row 3. This would be widget row 1, this would be widget row 2 and this will be widget row 3.
One of the things we need to do is measure the space we need for this. The image itself is only like 100 pixels wide. I wonder what it is over here.Let’s give ourselves, say 120 pixels on either side and the whole thing, I think, what did we say the whole thing was? It’s like 800 or something like that? So 120 pixels on either side and then the middle one will be 800 minus 240, that is 560.
So we have 3 rows, widget column 1 is going to be 120 pixels wide. Widget column 3 is going to be 120 pixels wide and widget column 2 is going to be 560 pixels wide. Then in terms of text alignment, we’re going to center all of them, actually. We’re going to center everything, text align center and hit save.
