The first thing I’m going to do is open up Outlook. This is a clean installation of Outlook. It doesn’t have any email in it currently. To configure Outlook, go up to Tools and Email Accounts, you’ll add a new email account and click Next. This is going to be a POP3 email account so click Next again and in this case you’ll enter your name, Rick Anderson. This is how you want your name to show up in the email header. The email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
The username is the same thing if you go back to the BlueHost control panel, the username is this mail server username, which is email@example.com. So flip back to your Outlook and type in your email name. The password is the same password that we entered earlier.
The Incoming mail server is POP3. Now we have to go back over to the BlueHost control panel and see, incoming mail server is called mail.byobtutorial.com. In your case obviously it is mail.whatever your domain name is whether it’s “johndoebusiness,” or whatever, just substitute your domain name for the byobtutorial.com.
So the incoming mail server is mail.byobtutorial.com and the outgoing mail server — again we go back to the control panel and the outgoing mail server has the same name, mail.yourdomainname.com. I probably should have said “yourdomainname” at the very beginning of this but you probably get the idea now.
Go back to Outlook and type in mail.byobtutorial.com and then go over here to More Settings. Under More Settings the thing that’s really important about this is the outgoing mail server. You have to select My outgoing server requires authentication. You select that and you say, Okay.
Now you have the opportunity to test account settings. This is where you’re going to find out whether or not we did it right. Let’s press the Test Account Settings button. It says “Congratulations! All tests completed successfully. Click Close to continue.” Then click Next, then click Finish, and actually if you click Send and Receive you’ll probably get the test email. You’ll see the email that we just sent ourselves –firstname.lastname@example.org. This is an email message sent automatically. There’s your evidence that that worked.
