Lesson 10 – Part 7 – Add a Video using a Text Widget

The next thing we’re going to look at is how to add a video using a text widget to our business/professional Genesis theme and Agency child theme website. In order to do that, you need to have a sense of how big a space you have to do this in because in the Agency child theme, this widget is 280 pixels wide and by the time they take their padding out, what you really have is about 246 pixels for content.

Embed Code from YouTube

We’re going to go over to YouTube, go to my videos, my channel and go to upload videos. We’ll use the BackupBuddy demonstration. Then we come over here to Share and embed is what we really want.

What we need to do is say, it’s only going to be 246 pixels wide so 246 x 196. Once we’ve said that, we can grab the YouTube code and let’s put that in Footer 2. Put that video there, hit Save, refresh and now the YouTube video is sitting there in the widget area.

That’s how you add a video in a widget area using a text widget. We’ll also talk about how to add a video to the content later but that’s how to use the text widget in order to add a YouTube video. The same thing would work for a Vimeo video and probably a number of other video hosting services that will let you put in videos.
