Welcome back to Part 5 of Lesson 14 of the Build Your Own E-Commerce Website tutorial series. In this fifth part of the lesson we are going to add an email list for prospects for our WordPress business website, and potential customers will be added to this list by clicking on a form for a free download.
To see what that’s going to look like come over to our demonstration site, www.thesisestore.com. We are going to create a form similar to this, where when they enter their email address and name and click on this, it will send this information to AWeber. AWeber will send out a confirmation email and when they confirm their email address and name; then they will be sent to a page where they can download this for free from our WordPress business website.
Create a New List in AWeber
Come back over here to our AWeber account and go to My Lists and Create a New List. The new list is going to be called byobtut-prospects and we’ll get rid of the e there – byobtut-prospct. And the List Description is for readers who have requested the free Ebook download. Then the Company Branding is still going to be Byob Tutorial, Website will be – dot, com, the Logo URL is still this one here so copy image URL and paste it.
Let’s save the list settings and then we’re going to come back over to the other list and copy my email information. Grab that and copy. Then come back over to prospects and go back to List Settings, put in the Email Signature, turn off Include a web form and Notification again will be Rick Anderson, firstname.lastname@example.org. Save our list settings.
Use Confirmed Opt-In
It took us onto list two and now we are going to use the AWeber Confirmed Opt-In and we’re going to leave that on. Our Subject is going to be firstname, Confirm your subscription and then come down here to edit the intro.
Create a Confirmation Message
I’m going to say “We received your request for the Free Ebook Download. Before we begin sending you the information you requested, we want to be certain we have your permission.” Then it’s going to say this and we’ll go ahead and Edit Signature and instead of Thank you, Byob Tutorial, I’m just going to say Thank you and add my signature that we’ve already entered before.
Add a Success Page (Access to the Free Download)
So then we need to have a Success Page. This page is the place we want them to go as soon as they’ve confirmed so that they can get their download. We have to go back over to our website demonstration site ( Lesson 14 site) to create that.
Let’s begin at the Dashboard. So log in and scroll down to Pages. If we want this to be relatively secret we’re can give it an odd ball name. Say Add New and I’m going to give it a funky name and that will be just fine for the URL. I’m going to change the page title to Free Ebook Download. Then come down here to the bottom and say noindex, nofollow and noarchive this page. This should make the page relatively difficult for someone to discover. That is they’re not going to be able to search your site for this. Showing that it is not to be indexed or followed means that Google won’t be able to index it and we should be safe.
Hit Publish and we’re going to view the page. We need to get the address – whoops it changed the address. We don’t want it to be that address, we want it to be the weird number. Say Okay to that – Update – view the page, copy it, come back over to our List Settings and we’re going to put that page in the Success Page.
Now as soon as they click on this confirmation button they will be routed to this Success Page so they can make their download from our WordPress business website. Go ahead and hit Save List Settings and that wraps up Part 5 of Lesson 14 of the Build Your Own E-Commerce Website tutorial series.
