The page /plugins/byob-thesis-feature-box-plugin/ presents qite a confusing picture regarding the SIMPLE version versus the ???? version, and what version number of either is being offered.

New subject -

Am I correct in my understanding that it doesn't matter what version of any plugin is installed, as the developer will immediately be offered the latest version if one is available?

Brian, right now there is only one version of the Feature Box Plugin and that is the BYOB Thesis Simple Feature Box.

It used to be called "BYOB Thesis Feature Box" but I've changed the name.  There are however, still places on the site that use the old name.  Nevertheless, the feature box plugin and the simple feature box plugin are the same.

In terms of version numbers - If no version number is listed then the plugin has an automatic update feature which checks for updates and offers you the opportunity to update if a newer version is available.  I strive to place the latest version of each plugin on the plugin's download page so that you shouldn't expect to see an upgrade as soon as you install it for the first time.

Not all of the plugins have yet been upgraded to include the automatic upgrade feature.

That clarifies the situation regarding legacy references to Feature Box Plugin.

Regarding version numbers - "version number is listed" - I am unclear what this refers to - where is it listed - on the download page? - in the installed Thesis application? etc.

What should be the procedure to ensure that the latest version/release of a particular plugin is installed?

What I'm working on is a standard that I'll actually follow.  I'm really good at setting up standards and making sure staff follow them, unfortunately I'm not that good at doing it myself.  Currently plugin design, development and maintenance is all up to me so I'm probably going to slip up from time to time.

Having said that I now intend to include the current version number in the download link.  When everything is working properly the download link will give the version number of the file that is being downloaded.

Ten of the plugins are all the way up to standard, including the automatic upgrade feature.  I'm working on the final 5 and getting ready for a big upgrade push when Thesis 2.0 comes out.  (Which is now supposed to be available in beta some time in January).
