Hi

I actvated the option in the page template to display "Link headline to article page" on the Front page. Before this the headline was color #444444 (a dark grey). When I actvaed the option, all the headlines on all the posts on the page became a dark red "clicked link" color. I have tried to change this color back to #444444, even using custom CSS file, to no avail. I have even experimented with making the link preclicked and clicked both the same color. I am missing something. Any ideas on approaching a cure

I thought the Custom CSS file loaded last and overrode all CSS?

Thanks

Brian

A link to your site would help, Brian. Kinda hard to see what the code actually is without that. 😉

Sorry - do you need me to turn on the linkable headline?

Thanks

Well, if you want us to try to troubleshoot, we do need to see what it is you're trying to do. 😉 So yeah - we'll need to see it with the settings enabled that aren't doing what you want them to do.

BTW - do you use Firefox Developer Edition? It's absolutely invaluable for both looking at the CSS and seeing what's really going on, as well as testing fixes (right in the browser).

Yes, I figured that. I just can't leave it on as the owner hates it. Turned on now.

Yes, I use the Firefox Developer Edition. Did not help. Would not change

Thanks Carolin

As far as I can see, the reason the link isn't gray is because you haven't specified that H1 links are to be gray.

You'll need something like this in the Custom CSS:

h1 a:link {
color: gray;
text-decoration: none;
}

h1 a:hover {
color: gray;
text-decoration: underline;
}

- and if you want it to be that way ONLY in certain sections, then you'd need to specify that too. You do need something (like the underline on hover) to give your visitors some feedback so that they know that the headline is a link - as it is, making it the same color as headlines without links may lead to some confusion.

Hi Paddy

I have tried that. It is bing over written, even when I place it at the end of the custom CSS file

I can see that you've tried to specify the color, but you haven't got the LINK "a" in there - that's why it's not working. 😉

You've also got a backwards bracket at the end of the CSS (so the CSS declaration isn't closed):

.heading-color-add {
color:#444444;
{

You need h1 a or h1 a:link in there...

Hi

When I do it in developer

.heading-color-add a:link {
color: #444444;
}

it works, but not when I add it to custom CSS

Brian, I don't see it there in the CSS - it's still got the CSS without the "a:link" - I dumped the cache. Do you have a caching plugin running on the site, or caching courtesy of the host? Wondering if that's the issue.

I cleared the cache - but no change. I will work on. I will let you know what I find. You got me on the right path though. Thanks

much

Looks like it's working now in FF and Safari. Not sure why Chrome is still misbehaving...(hover shows gray - link is still the red, but the computed CSS says it's the gray. Weird - cleared cache, but still the same)

I'm glad you got this working.  2 things to know.

First the pseudo class :link isn't necessary.

.heading-color-add a {
     color: #444444;
}

Unless that rule is superseded by a more specific rule.

Second:  You can turn off Chrome's cache by opening Developer Tools and going to the Network tab.  There select the checkbox Disable Cache
