Hello,

I had been a annual member since 2012. Every time I used to manually pay for the subsequent year after reminders from Rick a few times through mail.

This time as I am very unwell and in financial crisis, I thought I would not renew on April 15th (my membership ends on April 15th) but join after a few months. But to my surprise, I received a message from paypal that my subscription has been auto-renewed and $127 has been debited from my card. It has never happened before.

I tried contacting Rick through mail and Skype but of no avail.

I need the money very badly now. I had been in this forum for 7 years.

My membership expires actually on April 15th, but was auto-renewed on April 14th.

Kindly help for a refund, please. I think one of the moderators could help. I am need this money desperately as I am unwell and in deep financial crisis. (Just to reiterate).

Thanking you in Anticipation,

Ravi

Ravi ...

Here are a few links from earlier dates and other BYOB users you will want to read through and review ---

https://www.byobwebsite.com/forum/general-thesis-questions/live-weekly-call-in-question-and-answer/#p34643

https://www.byobwebsite.com/forum/general-site-support-questions/says-expired-paid-for-lifetime/#p34906

https://www.byobwebsite.com/forum/forum-help/where-is-rick-anderson/#p34961

You will find via these links (as well as other postings on this site) that it has been pretty well documented by several other BYOB members that Rick has not been available to them, despite multiple attempts that they have made to reach him.

And by Rick's own posting on one of these links he has taken another job.

Since your payment was made through PayPal, you should be able to contact PayPal to get your refund. I suspect, if needed, you would be able to use the links above to communicate to PayPal what has been going on and why you should be able to get a refund. (If you need to do that you will likely need to copy/paste the contents of the links, since as a non-member PayPal customer support would not have the ability to log on and read the information.)

All the best and good luck.

Ravi, I'm not a moderator here, but given that Rick seems to be AWOL and hasn't responded to anyone's emails, calls, texts etc. for months (since last fall), I can only suggest that you contact your credit card issuer and tell them that you did NOT authorize this expenditure and want it reversed. I *think* you may find this easier than dealing with PayPal but I'm not sure. At any rate, you should check your PayPal account to see what is pre-authorized. See instructions on that (as well as disputing the payment with PayPal if you wish to go that route) here:

https://www.paypal.com/us/smarthelp/article/how-do-i-report-unauthorized-paypal-account-activity-faq1988

Sorry to hear about your health & financial issues - hope things improve soon!

Pierre may be along soon and may have something to add too - but as far as I know, he's not heard from Rick either. (and it doesn't look like the other moderator, Laura Nugent, has been around for eons)

Ravi

The only person who can help you is Rick.

I have no other contact details other than those on this site.

I have had no contact with him.

Ravi..

Paddy is correct I believe in saying that it would be easier / quicker to get a refund through your bank, than through PayPal (whatever bank/financial institution you used to deal with PayPal). PayPal will definitely take longer than dealing directly with a bank.

But this might be different if your bank is in some country other than the USA or Canada.  I only have had experience with USA banks.

Auto-Renew from paypal ?

I'm not a specialist about this financial matter, but if you still have some proof to communications with payments at BYOB, I would communicate any emails to your Bank and PayPal. Your financial Bank should help.

Btw, it's not clear what you did to stop payments.

Good luck.

Hi Pierre,

Thanks for your reply.

I) Rick used to send auto responder messages urging me to pay the subscription for the subsequent year for the past 6 years. And I used to press the Pay the annual fee using Paypal manually.  (Not auto-renewal).

Last year 2018, I think Rick has changed the Pay the subscirption  button as auto-renew. (I don't know the code). So this time I got no reminders from Rick. I thought since he has lost interest in the forum he is no more interested in collecting the annual fee from his members.

But out of the blue I received a message that I have been debited $127 from my CCard for renewal.

When I checked paypal I found out that my first subscription started from 2018 with yearly payment on the same date April 14th. So although it was only last year that Rick has changed the payment as auto-renew.

2) Immediately, I cancelled the auto-renewal in the Paypal portal. That just means I will not be debited the amount from next year 2020. Whatever that was transaction that was done was done.

I shall give you the details. Can you or anyone suggest the best screen capture software that not only captures the screen shot but the whole page to convince paypal, please?

Ravi, if you're on Windows 10, here are various options - you can do it within the OS - no need for additional software:

https://www.howtogeek.com/226280/how-to-take-screenshots-in-windows-10/

If you're on a Mac, just hit Shift+Command+3 (entire visible screen) or Shift+Command+4, which gives you a selection tool - make sure you put it at the top left of what you want to capture and then drag down and to the right. Screenshots will end up on your desktop by default, unless you've set them to go elsewhere.

Opps!! I am on Win 7. I saw that article.

I want to present the page shots in full rather than bits and pieces as screen shots.
