Which of the videos describes the following hypothetical scenario:-

How to create a normal post which as a teaser displays a (say) 100px x 100px thumbnail floated at top left, and a reasonable amount of Lorem Ipsum text.

But when displayed as a single post it will display a fullsized version, (say) 500px x 500px, of the same image at top center above the text.

And, most importantly, describes the operation and implications of ALL of the configuration options displayed in the process of importing the image from the Media Library and configuring it's use.

I have studied the recent Visual Editor series a zillion times but am still not clear on the significance/effects/consequences of all of the offered options.

I am hoping that this information already exists as a video, but if not, perhaps highlights an incorrect assumption regarding the basic knowledge and understanding of beginners like me.

The Visual Editor series goes into a lot of detail concerning editing and modifying of images - great - but seems to omit some of the basics - perhaps because they may be covered elsewhere.

But where?

Brian, lets talk about this on Wednesday. The short answer is that Thesis post images and thumbnails are different than inserting images using the visual editor.  You can have a hundred images in a single post but only ONE Thesis Post Image.

The simplest way to accomplish what you want is to upload the image the size you want to the Media Library and copy its address.  Then in the post place that address in the Thesis Post Image field.  Use Thesis Design Options to set the defaults for the post image location and the teaser image size and placement.  The teaser image will be automatically created at the size you specify from the post image.

That will be fine Rick.

By then I will have done more research and I am sure that your answer above will hopefully bring clarity and dispel some of my mistaken assumptions concerning WP/Thesis default behaviour.

Doing a site search for "use as featured image" found nothing, nor did a content/context search on all of your published content.

Google found a few tutorials on the subject, but none that clarified my hypothetical situation.

I suspect that my uncertainty regarding WP/Thesis default behaviour regarding posts and teasers, in that situation, is a causative factor.

The terminology in Thesis isn't "featured image".  The term is "Thesis Post Image".  What you need to master is the section on every post and page called "Thesis Post Image and Thumbnail".

Rick the reason that I was searching for the phrase "Use as Featured Image" was that this is the name of the button on the insert image dialog box and I was wanting to know it's operation.

The term Featured Image seems to have some subtle implications going by my Google searching.

WordPress has a function called "featured image" that Thesis doesn't use.  The featured image is the WordPress equivalent of the Thesis Post Image.  While WordPress doesn't do anything with it specifically, themes can use it to do what Thesis does with its Post Image.  That is, it can be used in a specific place in a post AND be used to generate a thumbnail to accompany an excerpt.

Remember that the Thesis teaser is unique to Thesis as well.  WordPress has no native function that combines thumbnail, post excerpt and various parts of post meta.  The WordPress featured image is the new WP way of providing access to a thumbnail created from the "main" post image.

FWIW - the Thesis Post Image feature far predates the WordPress featured image.

Aha!!! Now that I have thrown away my 30 WordPress books, ditched enough photocopies to endanger the rainforest, and cleared the trees from the wood, I am in a better position to benefit from your words of wisdom/clarification on the Wednesday or Thursday Webinars.

Confusion over implementing thumbnails and related teaser/Single Post issues seems to be one of the most common subjects on the Thesis Forum.

I now have 4 test sites/subdomains/BitNami installations set up ready for implementing/testing the Words From The Master.

BTW getting the domain and 3 subdomains setup on HostSo was an extremely frustrating exercise which revealed an appalling level of ignorance and incompetence, on their part as well as mine, not to mention a litany of lies and obfuscation.

However I digress.

I suggest that my initial hypothetical scenario in this thread may well serve as a good basis for a clarifying tutorial and/or video.

Actually, as I looked around my site for the answer its clear that I've never discussed the subject comprehensively in one place.  We'll do that this week.
