Hi Rick

Hope you can help me here

I had a Thesis skin installed and I accidentally activated the old theme. Now the skin was gone

I tried to restore it using my backup and refering to your video - however, my backup .tgz file is a TEXT/x-generic file in which I couldnt extract to the public html

Moreoever, I also couldnt find the Thesis Design / Site Options anymore at my dashboard and instead got an error message under "Theme"

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.
Name  Description
thesis_181  Stylesheet is missing.

Can you please help with these 2 problems?

My suggestion would be to use ftp to delete both Thesis and the thesis skin (don't use the dashboard).  Then reinstall Thesis using the dashboard and see if the original options were retained in the database.

Next I would try to extract the backup custom.css file from you backup (and the custom_functions.php if you made any customization there) and upload them to the new Thesis installation using ftp.

Then, I would re-install the skin.

Finally, I would make sure that you can restore in the future from your backup files.

Now, if you've followed my system you will have a local copy of all of your Thesis installation files.
