Rick,

Client has not touched the site in months.  I cannot log into site:

http://divinecaninepetsitting......login.php/

try it and you'll get an error message.

Was this the result of the WP 5.0 update?  Who knows?  I did not update it but Godaddy hosting says it's 5.0 now.   I used FTP to disable plugins.   I put PHP to version 7.2 from 5.6 and then back to 5.6 again to no avail.

We rolled back the site to December 5th which is far back as they go.  We just cannot log into.

Any suggestions?   I'm not too afraid to play around with phpMyAdmin.

Thanks.  Hope you had a nice Christmas and New Year.

Hi

I'm not seeing an error message, but a logging page. you need to have the login username & password.

Of course the client could have change this.

First contact host, problem could be their end.

Check .htaccess file.

Keith,

Thanks so much for the htaccess code.  I copied and pasted it in.   Unfortunately, it still didn't work.

I added this to the top of the wp-config file:

<?php
define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '1024M');

I tried lower memory limits and they didn't work.  Should I try a larger number?

Anyways, your help and resources were invaluable and greatly appreciated.   I tried absolutely everything I can think of but it's still just not letting me in.

Thanks again!

Have you check with hosting error could be their end?

I would the consider replacing the WP files:

  • Uploading fresh wp-content and wp-includes folders to your site.

Keith,

Thanks for all your time and effort.  I supposed I should call Godaddy customer service one more time and maybe the next guy or gal can deal with the 500 error?   The first person was clueless.

1. I did add wp-includes to no avail

2. I did not switch out wp-content as that would replace the theme and what not and cause a host of other troubles, I believe.    She wanted to convert the site from a dog walking site to a cat sitting site.   Looks like we'll have to start afresh with a new site for cat sitters.   So it's not like her dog walking business will suffer if she can never update her site anymore (since she's no longer a dog walker anyways).  Any information or images that she needs to copy to the new site, she can copy from the public, front end of the site.

Your efforts are sincerely and greatly appreciated.   I'll call Godaddy one more time and then going to move on.  Their backup did NOT work either and I was NOT able to get Backup Buddy to work with her site hosted on Godaddy which was a known issue, so I do NOT have a backup of my own.  Not sure what the current status of Backup Buddy and Godaddy compatability is.

Once again, our efforts were valiant, but unsuccessful.  Since it's not a current operating business (she's even moved to another state) it isn't tragic, albeit a bit inconvenient.  So thanks again for trying so hard to help me.

Sincerely,

Jupiter Jim

Jim

Sorry that was a mistake should have been replace wp-admin and wp-includes.

wp-content has all the important data for your site in it.

Shows the danger of copy and paste. I should have checked it more carefully.

Here are manual update instructions and how to deal with wp-content.
