Now that we have set up FTP access to WPEngine I am going to take everything. I’ll go back up one and I’m going to take wp-content and upload it directly to the live site. We’re always going to overwrite.

Do Not Upload the Zip File or Rename wp-content

Now, you might be tempted to do this a different way. This is true especially if you have a really large wp-content directory, you might be tempted to upload the zip file, rename this wp-content and the like but don’t do that.

The reason why is that WPEngine has its own set of must use plugins that are already installed there and you don’t want to screw that up.

So this is the right way to do it – extract your wp-content on your local machine and use an FTP client like Filezilla to upload those files one by one over the top of wp-content here.
